Pricing and Tagging Guidelines

Please read carefully and contact us for any questions:

1. Pre-register is required; information as listed above. You will need a consignor number to label your tags for each item in order to participate. Your consignor number is your 3 initials and last 4 digits of your home phone number: Mary Ann Smith at 555-1234 would label all her tags with MAS1234 in the top left corner of the tag.  You will be responsible for tagging your own items.

** New required tags-The manilla tags with the reinforced hole punch and small string attached are the required tags for tagging each item. They can be purchased at Office Depot or Walmart. They come in small size (jewelry, stock pins, etc.) and larger size (clothing, tack, saddles) and sold for under $4 for 50-100 count. If you are unable to use these, a reinforced sticker for the hole punch is required for tags that are of card stock or index card weight. Notebook paper are not accepted unless taped on top of the heavier tags. No very small tags.  A brief inventory is required.

Pre-registration is important for planning for adequate fixtures, tables and space.  If you are a repeat consignor you can use the same code if you would like.  You must pre-register with each sale regardless if you are a repeat consignor.

2. On the top right corner of the card write the size or measurement of the item. All items must be measured and clothing must be sized. For example: girths, belts, helmets, hats, boots, saddles and headstalls all need the proper measurements on the tag: 44 inch girth, 17 inch saddle, Cob size bridle, 78-size horse blanket, 34 inch belt, etc. Show clothing and riding clothing need to be on hangers with the correct size on the tag. For example- Ladies riding pants size 10 or Wrangler jeans 34x36. Jeans can be folded or on hangers and the tag showing on top belt loop.

 Indicate on tags for saddles the tree size with the seat measurement.

3. Consignors will be responsible for pricing their own items. Please consider the age and condition of an item when pricing. It does matter the condition as long as it is priced to that condition. Also, remember to use $1.00 increments only. (example- $1.00, $2.00, etc.) Write the price, using LARGE numbers, in the center of the tag. Please read very carefully! Pricing color codes: Black ink- price never discounted, stays that price throughout the entire sale even on the last sale day. Blue ink- price to be reduced 25% on last sale day. Red ink- price to be reduced 50% on last sale day. The last sale day. Your items can be discounted as indicated by the color of ink you write your price. The color-coded reduction is the consignor's way of trying to earn something on their item on the last day if it hasn't already sold prior. For example: Professional Choice leg wraps are priced for $12 in red ink. If they sell prior to last sale day, the price earned is $12. If they do not sell until the last sale day, the price will be $6 on that last day. If they are written in black ink, the price will stay $12 every day.

4. On the bottom of the tag, write a detailed description of each tagged item. The more detailed the description, the better. Write info such as Tex Tan Western light tan barrel saddle with basket weave design with matching breastplate or Complete Stubben black show bridle with reins, noseband and 5 1/2" full cheek snaffle bit. Descriptions help with selling!

Examples of tagging and labeling:

MAS1234                             size 76

$ 60.00

Weathabeta navy/green plaid
Turnout blanket w/ fleece lining

MAS1234                         16 ˝ inch

$ 450.00

Grand prix jumping saddle
light tan with leathers and irons.

       5. Attach the card to the item with appropriate hardware. Zip ties (electrical cable ties work the best!) They can be purchased at Wal-Mart, Lowe's and the dollar store. Hay twine, gift ribbon also are options. Use a hole puncher to make a hole for attachment. If you have several items, package them in a plastic Ziploc bag with the label secured with clear packing tape. Safety pins work well for some items. Books and videos- use zip lock bags or masking tape for labels. This avoids tearing the original item covers. Bits do not need to be in plastic bags, they will hang secured on a rack for display. Bits need to be measured. Only Equestrian Exchange can remove bits from rack when sold. Hats without loophole- use paper clips or safety pins- be descriptive. Large riding boots, use clear packing tape to secure tag around outside on top of left boot.  Large rubber bands hold tall English riding boots together well. Please be descriptive- brand, size, new, etc. If a boot box is provided, label still goes on left boot. Saddle tags need to be on the left side on a hardware hook, please do not place on the horn!  Saddles are arranged so shoppers can walk along the saddle racks and see all tags easily.  Clothing tags are best on belt loops and buttonholes. Wire coat hangers are available free at most dry cleaners. Hangers will not be returned.  Do not use self-adhesive labels, they fall off.

6. Be sure to secure your tags well! Equestrian Exchange is not responsible for any lost tags. The cleaner it appears, the better it will sell!   Please Do Not use duplicate tickets. Only one ticket per sale. If you have several parts then let me help you label it correctly. If you have any doubt about tagging, bring your item to the sale. I will have extra tagging supplies at the sale to help tag items correctly and we can get it straight!

7. A brief written inventory list with prices of the items provided by the consignor is required and helpful for Equestrian Exchange to track, sell and sort their things. This will help with any price discrepancies and tags misplaced. If you do not wish to provide this inventory list, Equestrian Exchange will not be able to track well, nor will you be able to claim any untagged items.  Remember to write the colors prices are written. Provide this list and make yourself a copy when you drop off your things.

An example why it is important, a customer shopped and bought an item for $25.00 in black for the price. He came in the next sale day with his receipt and said the item was supposed to be $5.00. He was sure! I pulled the consignors inventory list and it was written as $25.00 in black! Sorry. On your inventory list write the price and the color of your price. This helps me when you are not there.
If you bring in more items during the sale, consult me first so we can check them in and write on your inventory before the items are distributed in the sale.  If your blue ink looks black for the price, it will be sold as black, or not sold if that person shops on the last day and I can not clearly understand your intentions.

8. Security will be provided throughout the sale. There will be an undercover and uniformed security officer. There are surveillance cameras. Any theft of any type will result in being arrested and prosecuted.

9. Horse items and barn supplies can get extremely filthy! Dried manure, mildew, dirt and shavings stuck to blankets usually do not represent your item well. This also degrades the quality of the Equestrian Exchange Consignment Sale's reputation.

Most consignors spend a lot of time preparing, cleaning and tagging properly their items. Yes, this is "used" horse supply sale. Please try to take an extra measure to clean your things, especially the horse blankets and saddle pads. The cleaner it is, the better it will sell! l

Hints: Most coin Laundromats have oversized washers, and for $2.50 you can wash it and allow to dry on your fence at the barn. Car wash places and a power washer also do well for cleaning, at lease the worst filth. Then you can adjust your price and hopefully sell it for more. If the item is extremely filthy, Equestrian Exchange reserves the right to pull that item until the last day or consult the consignor. Nobody wants to put their "Only worn twice blanket" beside something that will get it dirty.

I also recommend a clear plastic trash bags for blankets.

10. Please understand Equestrian Exchange is NOT responsible for "price decisions" about your item, nor to negotiate and call you with any "Make Offers".The purpose of color coding items are to allow us to know your price intentions on that last sale day. If you do not wish to have your item's price changed, write price in black ink. Equestrian Exchange will not price barter. This sale is not an auction.

11. If you have any questions about tagging and pricing, please contact us.
